EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI

Without emphasizing much on the quality of cinema, it is a pain to see film makers losing their vision towards the script at the very root level. Manorama Six Feet Under is a tame product from director Navdeep Singh.

Claiming itself to be a thriller, Manorama never actually manages to hold your attention. The film is like a sunken ship, right from the beginning till the end. Nothing other than a platter of striking visuals will hold your attention.

Coming to the plot, the film narrates the story of a small town amateur detective who gets trapped in a mesh of lies, deceit and murder.

SV (Abhay Deol) is a government engineer by profession, but by heart he lives the life of a detective. His interests lie in writing detective fiction. His maiden attempt ‘Manorama’ fails, pertaining him to restrict his hobby to second grade magazines.

Oppurtunity knocks at SV’s door as the wife (Sarika) of a powerful politician offers him a chance to spy on her husband. SV’s grabs the lucrative offer to play a detective in the real world. He visions his dream of acquiring name and fame through his spyful stint.

SV completes his task dutifully, only to learn that the lady who gave him the job is not what she claimed to be. Situation worsens, as she gets dies in a mysterious accident.

Going by the happenings, SV is provoked to solve the mystery of the woman, only to discover a shocking truth.

So what went wrong in the spring of this gloomy thriller? Everything.

The film leaves you confused with a package of dry suspense angles. Come again, the reason for Sarika’s murder is not justified. The relevance of medical reports with the politician is not revealed. It is the final frame which irates you the most. Abhay smiling out like a winner all the way. The film has lost..for sure.

Right from the inceptionof the story to the screenplay, the film delivers a pathetic cinematic experience to a few cinegoers, like me.

Arvind Kannabiran’s cinematography is attractive and worth a praise. Direction is lost amidst the dark shadows of a childish script.

Good actors are crushed in the bad light of a poor storyline. Slowly though, but Abhay Deol is emerging as an acting revelation. Abhay has a carved a niche for himself in the film industry by working with new directors and original concepts. Some his previous performances in films like ‘Socha Na Tha’, ‘Aahista Aahista’, ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’ have proved the same.

The moviebuffs will witness Vinay Pathak (Bheja Fry and Khosla Ka Ghosla fame) in an interesting role of a corrupt cop. The audiences are bound to love his way of portraying the character with the added touch of sarcasm and humour.

Gul Panag, Raima Sen are wasted in this film. Sarika is now there, and the very next moment she is gone. A sheer waste of fine actors!

Don’t take a chance by watching this film, as it will leave stressed and bury your happiness (atleast six feet under).
