EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI

Chhodon Naa Yaar is directed by Dilip Sood, and the starcast includes names like Jimmy Shergill, Kim Sharma, Mahak, Kabir, Farid and Ahmed Khan. Touted to be an engrossing thriller, the film fails to live up to the average expectations of a decent entertainer.

Ravi, essayed by Jimmy Shergill is final year student of a Delhi Mass Communication college. He lives life on his own terms and chooses the irregular paths to experience something different out of life. He along with his two friends Shiv (Kabir) and Sunny (Farid) decide to endeavour their luck into trying something dangerous.

The threesome decided to go to the Northern Hills of India to shoot for their diploma film, a college project. The idea is to capture the myth surrounding that place. Little did they know that the mysterious trip could change their life forever.

Ravi, the leader of the troupe gives a deaf ear to the precautions given by his college professor Saxena (Ahmed Khan). He ventures for the adventurous trip even after continuous warnings by his girlfriend Rashmi (Kim Sharma).

Sunny joins the group to have some fun on the journey. The funnier side of the story ends once they experience the myth as a true real life incident. In reality, the film relates to a spirit who haunts a forest and a temple. The nightmare has just begun and their survival is the biggest question.

Firstly, the film’s title creates a misconception in the viewer’s mind, who go on to believe that the film is about a light subject and not a horror.

Now, are there any eerie moments? The answer is yes and that’s where the director shows his excellence. A few scenes will leave you shocked and scared. But overall, the script lacks concept.

The climax is abrupt as the mystery is left unsolved. The viewers are left dissatisfied with a lot of mystique questions in their minds.

The songs seemed to be placed out of context in the film in order to cater to the masses. The horror element needed to be dealt more seriously than it is actually shown. Editing needed a lot of attention.

Actingwise, no guesses for who walks away with the cake on the whole. It is Jimmy Shergill who plays his character smoothly. Kabir Sadanand fails in his dialogue delivery. Farid Amiri does not suit the role needed for his character. Kim Sharma is hopeless.

On the whole, this week’s fourth release Chhodon Naa Yaar fails at the scripting level. Watch the film, only if you need a good sleep in the theatre.
