EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI
Before you read my complete review, I present a set of questions before you. The answers are there for you to see but get the answers yourself after watching the movie.
Q.Is Chak De India a good movie?
A: It is one of the best movies made in the last decade or so.
Q.Is Chak De..a masala entertainer?
A.It is a complete entertainer.
Q.Any love angle in the film?
A. Yes, there is love for one’s country, its pride, its honour and, hockey of course.
Q.What is Chak De India all about?
A. Chak De India is all about playing for your dignity and respect.
India celebrates 60 years of glory, courage and freedom with the release of Chak De India. The wait is over for the first movie on the game of hockey to release. Yes, Chak De India, directed by Shimit Amin is a sure shot winner at the box office. King Khan leaves you mesmerized with a gala cinematic experience. The film is fused with the elements of slick storyline, energetic performances and great field emotions.
Chak De India deserves to be a hit in true aspects of technical proficiency. The film presents an exciting perspective on a simple plot, with a dose of laughs and shudders. For me, Chak De India stands out from the rest so far this year.
The plot of Chak De… begins with the final match between the two nations India and Pakistan. A lost penalty goal by India’s caption Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) costs the result of the match in the oppositions favour. He is suspected of conspiring with the Pakistani team.
Termed as a traitor (Gaddaar), it takes seven long years for Kabir to wash the stains of humility by becoming the coach of Indian Women hockey team. The task ahead of Kabir is to prepare a team for the upcoming Hockey World Cup in Austrailia. In the end, its Kabir and hockey who emerge as the true winners.
The movie is presented with a modern day look, which makes it highly absorbing. The first half concentrates on laying the plot layer by layer, with the development of characters, their behaviour and training. The second half gives the viewers an entertaining and emotional dose of hockey. The complete movie is a grasping experience all the way.
Director Shimit Amin, differs from the usual soft way of narrating the Yash Raj films. He successfully attempts at making you laugh, cry, clap and shout out in joy ‘Chak De India’.
Full marks to the editor and cinematographer, who have worked extremely well to shower a fantastic on-the-field hockey experience. The manner in which the audiences in the theatre jumped and cried out in joy, showed the excellence of the technical departments.
The moments wouldn’t have been what they are without the amazing background score. The music uplifts your spirits and gives goosebumps with its magnetic sound.
Musically, the title of Chak De India is used with the narration of the plot. The other songs are just about average but sync well with the visuals of the film.
On the acting front, Tanya Abrol, who plays the Punjabi character of Balbir delivers a rocking performance with her emotional outbursts. The other characters who get a good share of screen space are Vidya Malvade, Shilpa Shukla, Sagarika Ghatke and Chitrashi Rawat. The other characters are very good in their roles.
Are you waiting to read about SRK? Needless to say, no one else could have portrayed Kabir Khan better than the King Khan himself. As Kabir Khan, he works hard to achieve his aim that is to see the Indian tri-coloured flag hoisted with all the other countries’ flags. There are thousands of people who question the credibility of SRK as an actor, but he manages to shut everyone’s mouth with his fantabulous performances.
On the whole, Chak De India is a treat to one’s eyes. Watch this movie to see Shah Rukh Khan go weak in his knees. Watch the movie to celebrate the dignity of India..Chak De!
